Wearing a Deacon stole

The deacon stole starts from the LEFT shoulder, crossing the body (both front and back), and fastening at the right side/hip. It represents the deacon’s role as a servant (diakonos), remembering Jesus taking the towel and bowl and washing the feet of the disciples. It also symbolises the “yoke of Christ”.
It leaves the right arm free to assist with tasks, symbolising readiness for service. It also symbolically replaces the sword usually placed at the right hip with the towel ready for service.
