Legally DIAKONIA is a foundation and is domiciled in the Netherlands.</P> <H2>Who may become a member of DIAKONIA ?</H2> <P>Membership of DIAKONIA is open to associations and communities of deaconesses, diaconal sisterhoods and brotherhoods, and organisations of diaconal ministers and church workers. Applications go to the executive committee via the regional president.</P> <H2>What is the basis of DIAKONIA ?</H2> <P>DIAKONIA is called by the Lord of the Church, Jesus Christ, to the service of reconciliation in the world with the word of faith and the action of love.</P> <H2>What are the aims of DIAKONIA ?</H2> <UL> <LI>to further ecumenical relationships among diaconal associations and diaconal communities; <LI>to reflect on the nature and task of diaconia in the Biblical sense; <LI>to further a sense of diaconia in the churches and congregations; <LI>to strengthen fellowship among members and to render mutual help; <LI>to undertake common tasks. </UL> <H2>How does DIAKONIA function ?</H2> <P>The DIAKONIA World Federation is organised into three regions:</P> <UL TYPE=disc> <LI>DIAKONIA Region Africa-Europe (DRAE), <LI>DIAKONIA Asia-Pacific (DAP), and <LI>DIAKONIA of the Americas and the Caribbean (DOTAC). </UL> <P>Each region elects its regional president and decided on its own structure.</P> <P> Every fourth year a world conference takes place with meetings of the delegates of the member associations, with worship, Bible studies, addresses, lectures, group discussion, workshops, singing and celebrating.</P> <P> The delegates elect the president of the World Federation and the members of the executive committee who are nominated by the member associations.
